4.5 Transport of mRNA outside of the nucleus

After transcription of the pre mRNA and its maturation into mRNA in the cellular nucleus, mRNA is transported into the cytoplasm to be translated. This exit occurs through nuclear pores.

To pass through the nuclear membrane, the mRNA must:

  • Present a cap
  • Present a poly A tail
  • Be devoid of introns
