ASLM offers scholarships for biomedical technicians in Africa

The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is a pan-African professional organization that promotes the essential role of laboratory medicine throughout Africa.

Biomedical laboratory services are essential to support effective health systems. They play a critical role in the diagnosis of disease, epidemiological surveillance and monitoring of therapy, as well as for research and development.

Medical laboratories in Africa are sadly underdeveloped and can not meet the health requirements of the 21st century. Inadequate resources and diagnostic services compromise the quality of patient care due to misdiagnosis and therefore over / under treatment of the disease. These diagnostic errors have significant challenges in economic and public health.

The scholarship ASLM offers is an opportunity for biomedical technicians or scientists who want to strengthen laboratory staff in Africa.

You will be part of a program for a duration of 1 to 2 years, your cost of tansport and training will be offered by ASLM.

Your tasks will include:

  • Improve patient care and ensuring better access to diagnosis

  • Improve service delivery to meet the growth in health priorities and local demand

  • Strengthening laboratory networks, surveillance, and quality

  • Support assessments and impact surveys

  • Conduct operational research in the areas of HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and global health security

  • Institutionalize the importance of an accurate and reliable diagnosis

  • Assist in the evaluation and the appropriate use of innovative diagnostics and rapid tests

  • Establish various biomarkers to assess the burden of disease in the community and manage patients
