Global Approach for Biological Research on Infectious Epidemics in Low income countries

Laboratory

In 2005 Fondation Mérieux built the Centre Charles Mérieux in Bamako with the aim of trying to control infectious diseases in Mali. In partnership with the government of the Republic of Mali and Fondation Christophe et Rodolphe Mérieux, Fondation Mérieux has thus provided the local scientific and medical community with a tool for improving the quality of biological diagnosis.

The centre has a medical analysis laboratory, the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory, where clinical biology examinations are performed on a daily basis in the field of bacteriology (mycobacteria), hematology, serology (toxoplasmosis, HIV), parasitology (malaria), biochimistry and molecular biology (HIV viral load). The centre also has several lecture rooms where training activities with clinical laboratory biologists and technicians are carried out. The centre also runs the Action BioMali programme, the aim of which is to create a network of clinical laboratories in Mali.
