Global Approach for Biological Research on Infectious Epidemics in Low income countries

Fondation Mérieux is building a Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratory, dedicated to research and training, that will be located on the campus of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Antananarivo. The construction began in July 2008 and should be completed in December 2009. This future Centre of scientifique research and training, will include a laboratory equiped to carry out research activities on infectious agents (P2+ and molecular biology facility) and also training rooms. The research activities will focus on local problems affecting, particularly the field of parasitology (malaria, cysticercose, filariose …) and on GABRIEL network activities based on tuberculosis and respiratory diseases. The activity of this laboratory is coordinated by Fondation Mérieux's Manager of Indian Ocean region .

The research team is in the recruitment process and already includes two people:

Dr Arsène Ratsimbasoa, MD

Dr Arsène Ratsimbasoa will be the future Director of the laboratory. He is an epidemiologist and is the Public Health research representative at the University of Antananarivo.

Jonathan Hoffmann

Jonathan Hoffmann will be the future head of Molecular Biology Laboratory. He has a Master's in microbiological diagnosis.
