Global Approach for Biological Research on Infectious Epidemics in Low income countries

GABRIEL (Global Approach to Biological Research on Infectious Epidemics in Low-income countries) is a research laboratory network covering several Asian, African and American countries (Brazil, Cambodia, Haiti, Laos, Madagascar, Mali…), which belong to the Rodolphe Mérieux Laboratories (RLM) created in partnership with national institutions. The network benefits from the scientific support of Fondation Mérieux laboratories located in France (Emerging Pathogen Laboratory, EPL) and China (Christophe Mérieux Laboratory, CML), the expertise of health professional and technological skills of industrialists. By developing diagnostic tools and training local researchers and technicians, it will promote the control and prevention of infectious diseases in developing countries. This network is coordinated by the Network Manager of the Scientific Department of Fondation Mérieux.

To start their research activities, laboratories belonging to the network will focus on diseases with a high public health impact: respiratory diseases and tuberculosis. This network will establish strong links with national institutions and is expected to provide support to national and international public health and research.
