The Emerging Pathogens Laboratory (LPE) reports to the Scientific Director (Guy Vernet) of Fondation Mérieux.
The laboratory (350 m2) is located in the Institut Fédératif de Recherche INSERM 128 for Virology and Immunology in Lyon, which also hosts the Jean Mérieux BSL-4 laboratory. The team has a BSL-2 laboratory and access to a BSL-3 and a BSL-4 laboratory. The group is composed of 2 staff scientits (PhD), 1 assistant scientist, 5 technicians, 2 PhD students and 1 assistant.
The core competencies of the LPE are: molecular diagnostics including DNA-Chips, molecular and cell biology (cloning, sequencing, virus culture, recombinant proteins and immunological tools, molecular techniques for new pathogen discovery). The LPE also collaborates with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, in partnership with Fondation Mérieu, to set up a 400 m2 laboratory located in the major hospital in Beijing.
